Why do humans love sugar so much?
According to James DiNicolantonio, a cardiovascular research scientist at St. Luke’s Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City, humans are biologically drawn to sugar because it helps the body store fat. He also says that you need to eat a certain amount of sugar to alter the brain’s neurochemistry. When you are craving sugar, he says to go for dark chocolate or almonds.
As a result of eating too much sugar, humans can suffer from sugar withdrawals and dopamine depletion. AD-HD-like symptoms can also result from excess amounts of sugar, which is why some might be hyper after eating sugar.
So, is sugar more addictive than cocaine? The answer is, only on excess amounts.
