Simple Changes Matter – Breakfast Bars

As the teacher behind #sugarkills, one of the things that I think we need to do a better job of is showing people that healthier eating choices are NOT that hard to pull off!

So I thought I’d start a new type of post for our blog today called Simple Changes Matter.  The idea behind the category is to show easy replacements for the sugary foods in your life.

I’ll start with a sugary food that I love to eat:  Pop Tarts.  I had them for breakfast ALMOST every day for ALMOST a decade.  The problem, as Abigail points out in this post, is that they are LOADED with added sugar.

So I started to eat Oatmeal to Go Bars for breakfast instead.  They’ve only got 22 grams of sugar.

While that’s STILL almost a full day’s worth of sugar, it’s better than the 40 grams that I was eating when Pop Tarts were my breakfast food.

We all know that water is the healthiest and best drink for our bodies. But sometimes you go places and it doesn’t taste good and sometimes you just want something with a little more ‘umpf’. Try drinking a sparkling water like Perrier or just plain club soda. Add a lemon or lime wedge and you have another 0 sugar, 0 calorie refreshing drink… cheers!

I’m a fiend for breakfast bars too… and on a recent trip to Trader Joes, I discovered Think Thin bars… 0g sugar and 20g protein! My personal favorite ‘brownie crunch’ also makes the perfect afternoon snack, satisfies my chocolate craving, and helps keep my blood sugar on even keel til dinner… so I can stay nice mommy all through homework time! Let me know if you’d like me to pick you up some Mr. F 🙂

      Hey Mrs. D…

Now THAT sounds like a pretty good snack indeed! I’m going to have to go and check those things out. Anything with 0 grams of sugar is worth putting on the shopping list. I can’t wait to check it out.

Thanks for your comments too — we really like hearing from readers!

      Rock right on,
